If a girl says she's not free till ___, is that a rejection?

I usually just brush it off and say something like gotcha. If they care they explain themselves, if not who cares

Not a woman but I say that sometimes that might mean I have to much in my plate and the days that I am actually free I need for myself (so technically is be free but I don't feel like I want to add another thing to my calendar

So it could be this or if could be a brush off - why not just put the ball firmly on her side again by saying something like "ok no problem, can you arrange something when your calendar opens up again around that time?"

That makes it clear that you're still interested but you don't have to ask again to figure out whether she's interested or just trying to brush you off.

I wouldn't directly ask what she's doing until then, perhaps just a quick joke that she definitely could use some distraction if she's that busy (depending on how you two talk to each other of course)

I get you. Take it for what it is, don't read too much into it. Stay in touch and if she's still on your radar in a couple weeks, grab that smoothie. Schedules are wacky these days and planning has a lot of "ifs".
