Sitting across from a first date spells disaster. You can't escalate at all, there's no connection, it's more like an interview than anything. Go somewhere you can sit at the bar and eat, or go to an actual bar, or go somewhere like a park and sit beside her and drink wine (iced tea if you're <21).

tl;dr: Girls love parks.

Maybe you're overthinking too much. The place where you sit is not going to make people see you as needy.

Sitting directly across from someone puts them in the mindset that you are in an adversarial setting. Sitting next to her is good, because it creates the feeling that you're on the same team. If that feels awkward, sitting at a corner is a good alternative.

Some guys read about meditation to help with pickup. I read about mediation.
