The whole "I'm psychic" thing is going to draw women in because they're wondering if he's going to succeed or fall flat on his face. And with women who are into nonsense like astrology, they want to believe in magic. It's also clear that he's done research on these women in the past, because he didn't get that information by looking into their eyes. (Darren Brown exposes so-called psychics and faith healers. He's a skeptic.) He leaves them with some pauses and silence to increase the tension; it wouldn't have quite as strong of an effect if he walked up and wasted no time telling them stuff about themselves. It's being a showman (knowing how to use pauses, commanding their attention, never wavering in his confidence) - all of which come from years as a magician commanding crowds - along with the idea of something magical/psychic going on, and getting it right (thanks to doing research off-camera). Of course, the girls could be actresses, too, but I'm leaning towards the explanation that they were being genuine.

Now I've had time to watch it a few times in detail this is what I've noticed;

Phillipa is obviously the target, Alex and Michelle are the pawns.

He quickly establishes himself as the centre of attention by being very talkative and making lots of hand movements, also by giving the women compliments. Even though they're brushed off women always love compliments and he's able to do it with humour that establishes a rapport and relaxes them.

The one key thing that he starts doing is giving out pleasure, in the form of tension, surprise and making each women the centre of attention, and as importantly not giving out pleasure.

He starts with Phillipa, making her the centre of his attention, then takes it away again and leaves her on the sidelines, breaking eye contact and moving onto another woman. Giving pleasure and taking it away. While he's then talking to Michelle and Alex Phillipa just ceases to be important.

Michell and Alex, blah blah blah, a demonstration of higher value and a neg of Phillipa, denying her attention so when he comes back to her she's more flattered and open to him.

As soon as he comes back to Phillipa he initates kino by touching her on the arm, and becomes more authoritative, commanding her to look at him and listen to him. He tells her that eyes are important to her, but I think that's bullshit, eye contact is important to everyone, he just wants her to focus on his eyes so he can hold contact and establish a connection. Then he takes it away, I'm guessing to heighten then tension.

'Hear me say the line' is to create a link in her mind between him and a feeling of attraction. Genius. He say's the line, kino once more as he does and she melts just because he's broken the tension.

I missed this the first couple of times but at the end she says that the trick didn't work, his line wasn't what she was thinking off, her reaction was purely to his actions.
