Been in Japan for about a month. Moved to shake up my life and it sure as he'll done that. Best decision ever!
I did a tiny bit of Japanese study before I came and now I've been doing around 4-5 hours of self study a day when I can. It's making more sense though I feel like a child when talking to people and lost some independence.
I've talked to some girls on tinder though it's no popular here. Same with OKC. The popular apps here are off limits to me until I can change my Google Play region (done with a local credit card). The most talking I've done has been though Hello Talk. Been talking to a girl and we're making plans to meet up soon. Honestly I don't care if we hook up or not as having a Japanese friend here would open up many doors.
Other things I have been doing is going to local free Japanese classes run by volunteers. There are usually a mixture of international students and foreigner workers. Did meet a girl from the states but only spoke with her a short time before I had to leave.
Due to my company I have to keep fairly close to cultural guidelines. Cold approaches on the street can be seen as rude. My face, build and height make me stand out and noticed a lot more. I also don't have a ton of money to head out to bars with.
What else could I do? I feel a lot of the game is in body language and facial expressions. Any guides to help maximize these while my language is improving?
I've read tofu's Japan guide and done similar searches in this community. Guess I'm looking for a 'what to do when you don't know the language' guide.
