No, don't ask if she is busy...that assumes you are intercepting her, which is a bad frame. It's like those guys who insist on starting a conversation with excuse me...like they work for Greenpeace (although Greenpeace learned to stop doing it).

there is no time frmae on how long it should take to get a girls number because it all depends on what you're talking about. more importantly you want to qualify her. What i mean by qualify her is find out why she should have your number. Ask her questions about what she does then find something that you two do that in common ( like a place that you go to often).

Ex. her: I'm from soho i go to chobani all the time. you: really? the one by houston? her: yeah! you: wow, i go there all the time. i don't work far from there. her: cool. you: whats your number (notice i didn't ask "if I can have her number)? her: 555 555 5555 (hopefully she give you a different number). you: ill hit you up next time I'm in that area. (let her know what you're gonna do with the number immediately so she can anticipate your call or text). hint: text her you're name immediately after getting her number. then what you want to do is close the conversation and leave on a high note.
