Why would you not invite him? Perhaps I don’t fully understand your question, but it seems like a no-brainer. If you don’t invite him, then it seems like an automatic no—plus he’s waited so long! If he says no, well, you know where he stands. Look, by not taking the chance, you’ve basically answered for him with a resounding “no!”

Just say it. Women make the mistake of letting what is unsaid stop them from what needs to be said. Guys aren't mind readers, if we know you well enough we can sort of guess most of the time to varying degrees of accuracy but you need to see it from his perspective and just say it. It maybe feels like you were flaking on him when several opportunities came up and maybe he felt like you were the one saying "no thanks" just be honest and direct with what you want. You had a good connection already and you can get back to that. It's scary, it's hard, your palms get sweaty and you feel nervous as hell. Congratulations you're infatuated. Be upfront and you'll be surprised.
