Are their honestly a lot of short girls who only like really tall men. Or is this just something Reddit exaggerates?

Reddit exaggerates greatly I'm 5'9'' and see mainly tall girls with much shorter dudes. It's the same as a girl saying "oh I had the biggest dick of my life, blah blah blah" girls perspectives are off number 1 and number 2 none of them are running around measuring dicks they've come across, most of this is based off of emotions and the energy you put off when you meet/interact with them. It's all about perspective.

The fact of the matter is, girls (guys too) don't know what they want. They have a preference and go for that preference, if your game is good enough or if you push her buttons well enough she will want to get with you plain and simple, that's a fact.

2 guys I know are around 5' 6". Both have no problem getting attractive women. They've dated women shorter than them. They're both thin too, being short and fat would pose problems I assume.

Do some women prefer tall guys? Sure. It's all about finding ones who don't though.
