I would say no. Guys don't read as much into things so they're less likely to pick up on the insult. Since they're taking the whole thing as a compliment you might as well be sincere. Secondly if the guy initiates contact he's already interested, if you're initiating contact you've already give up the I'm out of your league aura. Either way a neg is kinda pointless.

Assuming you're looking for a hook up and not a boyfriend guys care about two things. How hot you are and how much effort they have to put forth. Some guys like a challenge but most guys just want to get laid. If you want a boyfriend work on being hot, interesting, and pleasant.

Negs may work on some men and not on others. It depends on the type you are trying to attract. They are used on women to break through to a woman who has been constantly surrounded by fawning men complimenting her. It is a rare guy who has the same experience.

On top of that, most guys are coming from a rather insecure background -- especially the faux-alphas. A neg won't simply break through to them and get their attention, it will instead put most guys into a semi-belligerent sulk. Everyone from the attention-whoring fratty to the gamer-come-out-to-party. Use with care.

On the other hand, though, if a girl negs me with a smile in her eyes, I get excited. This is going to be fun and if she can take as good as she gets, I've got a great chance to rock my dry sarcasm. I'm generally considered an egotistical ass, though, so decide what kind of guy you want to go for before you start spewing negs.
