For me, I just decided to stop giving a fuck about what anyone thinks about me. It's kind of a frame thing (correct me if I'm wrong). Someone calls you a piece of shit. You know it isn't true, so why give a fuck?

Same person says you look fucking gay in pink or that red just isn't you're color. They might be right, but you like the way you look, so who gives a fuck? If you don't, start trying different colors, see what you like, it doesn't matter what others say. They don't dress you, you dress yourself, right?

Just wear what you want and wear it with confidence. You'll get compliments, trust me. My friend went "DAAAYUM, maybe I should be making out with you instead!", when I walked into his house. He was making out with a girl he had over earlier, for context.

But like I said, it doesn't matter what others think, just do you. However you might want to look into fashion trends at least, to get an idea of what you would feel good wearing.
