tl;dr: HBs were set on taking a cab home. What do?

Went out to meet a group at a bar/club. My goal for the night was to get over AA in front of my beta friends. Now, I don't know if any of you out there have this similar problem, but I feel perfectly fine approaching when I'm on my own, but in front of my beta friends it's still really tough breaking away from the wallflower group to do my own thing. I guess what makes me self-conscious is that they've never known me to be the type to just walk up and talk to girls (a transformation I've gone through on my own) and I'm still uncomfortable showing that side in front of them. I really shouldn't give a fuck. Fuck.

Anyway, luckily (and surprisingly), my buddy got enough liquid courage to strike up a conversation with an HB7 and her HB5 that wasn't from our group. I wing now out of courtesy because he engaged first. We go to their booth and start talking to them; they're laughing, I give them a hard time with school rivalry, and I'm dropping kino here and there to HB5. HB7 was definitely friendly and reciprocating but I sensed the opposite from HB5. Not disinterest, but just different.. All throughout I kept the conversation flowing and frame on my friend and I. Something I've always had a difficult time with, I tried to focus on my body language and have them lean into me to speak and not react for their approval. My friend jumps in the conversation when he feels comfortable but I had to make some effort to keep him in the loop.

All of a sudden, it's closing time and the HBs are trying to call a cab. I drove that night so I tell them that it wouldn't be any trouble to offer a ride. But all we hear are excuses. "We don't know if you're a good driver". "We'd never ride with someone from (the other school)". I retort back but they were pretty set on taking the cab. We made our final attempts as we all walked out, but looking back, that probably was a beta move. Woulda-shoulda-coulda #-closed at least, but I was too set on taking them home. I didn't want to settle. : \

I'd like to know what seddit would've said or done differently to offer a ride home. Should I have told/commanded instead of asked? Has anyone been successful in turning a cab ride into a trip home?
