is basically a realization I had in the past that just came back to me, full circle, as another realization.

Now this realization occured to me as I was rapping to myself at a Timothy's in the mall next to me. The pickup community is very often conscious of what they're doing: what they're trying to obtain, what habits they're trying to break, and what they're trying to improve on. To an extent, being self-conscious is a great thing. However...

I think it goes a little over the edge in these communities. Mind you, what I am saying here will be heavily biased because of my own view on myself. I personally am almost always paying attention to my habits and the reason that I am there. Today, though, a realization hit me: everyone else views these habits the same way.

Perhaps not to the same extent. Perhaps they don't pay as much attention to what we're trying to do as they do. Perhaps they don't refer to them as habits. But we are all, at some level or another, conscious of our habits. I think that some of our community might feel overly-critical about their bad habits, though, to the point where we actually victimize themselves, where we actually believe what we are doing is any different than what the next guy at the bar is doing.

You see that thick meathead sitting at the bar with a bunch of his friends? You see that wallflower pressed tight against the wall and scanning the area? These two are really the same person. They are both there for very similar if not the same reasons; the difference is the level of consciousness drawn to them. While the man hugging the wall might be in a state of judgement towards everyone in the club, with the jock there to provide happiness to his group, I think they are both there for the same reason, except that one of them takes that reason to the point where he actually victimizes himself. The wallflower might think "I'm here to find a classy girl for myself" and the jock might feel the same way, but because the way the dude pressed against the wall thinks, he might be in a more elitist and judgemental state of mind. Maybe even a superiority complex.
