Hey seddit, been lurking for a couple months and decided it was time to get off the computer and start talking to people in real life. Here are a couple situations in which chatting with people has benefited me.

1) A month ago or so I went to a show in SF with a buddy of mine. One line was short (VIP) and the other was quite long, and we weren't even sure whether tickets were still being sold. I went up to the front where the bouncer tried to shoo me off, saying I had to wait in line. I responded with good posture, good eye contact, and,

"Hi there, how is your night going?"

"Oh, it's not too bad."

"Are they keeping you busy?"

"They (the showgoers) come in waves. What can I do for ya?"

I then asked if there were still tickets and whether they were accepting cash. They were, and I then asked him if I could wait in the VIP line since it was shorter. He said, "Actually, the line is right here," and let me walk right in the front door with my buddy. Talk about a state booster and a DHV to all the people still waiting in line! I managed to k-close a girl in the club but as we were leaving my friend informed me he had hooked up with this girl once before and she was crazy in a bad way.

2) I was just at the store purchasing a rain jacket, but I forgot to bring this 15% off coupon with me. I chatted with the cashier for a bit and she gave me the discount anyway. I don't think I exactly charmed her much, but the takeaway here is be confident and ask for what you want.

TL;DR Good posture and eye contact + talk to everybody yields tangible benefits along with making me more comfortable talking to more people.
