TL;DW: Telling someone your goals makes them less likely to happen.

Any time you have a goal, there's some work that needs to be done to achieve it. Ideally, you would not be satisfied until you do the work, but when you tell someone your goal and they acknowledge it, the mind is tricked into feeling satisfied that it's already done, so you're less motivated to do the hard work necessary.

The contraction of "they are" is "they're."

I don't think this is always true and the experiment they had was just lame. Maybe the silent group later gave up because the goal seemed impossible, whereas the loud ones persisted because they didn't get stuck in negative emotions. I'm now on a project to approach girls every day for a month, and I love telling people about it, I love sharing the little stories it has already given me, it's all very motivating and now it would be just embarrassing to give up because people know!
