Background: I occasionally work at the gate of a military installation, so I have consistent short interactions with people. Getting a number close while working , on my part needs some Tact and timing in order to get the # but also not get in trouble.

It's a regular weeknight at the gate, and I am checking I.D's for every vehicle coming in , when an HB9 drives up to me. I smile, and ask her how she's doing. She smiles back tells me she's doing good and we have some smiling/eye-contact for those 10-15 seconds of interaction. I hand back her I.D. tell her to have a good night.

At this point , I don't think I'll see her again due to so many people coming through the gate, and I'm not up there all night. Fast forward two hours later as I'm about to get relieved and she comes up to the gate again.

This being the second interaction, I tell her "coming back to see me again" she smiles and says yes. I ask her name, he tells me her full name" H B 9". I don really have much time so I ask her if she has Facebook , she says yes and I tell her I'll add her. She tells me " haha ok" some more smiling and eye contact and she leaves again.

I wait until the end of my shift and add her on fb, So as to not seem so overly-interested. She accepts and sends me a message and we start chatting for a couple days. In the messaging , I ask her for her number. #-close. So far so good. We chat it up some more and I ask her if she would like to go to lunch with me. She says yes, but as friends.

So I get friendzoned pretty sure, I take it as whatever and say that's cool, wouldn't hurt to have a female wingman and she agrees.

The next day I see her at the gate again she texts me :

HB9: "you're really attractive just so you know"

Me:" ha thanks, at least I know you didnt say no to me because I'm ugly"

HB9:" we'll I don't think getting to know you would be a bad thing:)"

Me:" You should, it won't be a bad thing."

We keep texting, I see her one more time at work and I get another text:

HB9:" you make a really good first impression"

So, after all that I think that by not being phased by being friendzoned and being interested about her as a person even as a friend, has changed her thinking towards me.

What do you guys think? How should I continue approaching this? Also, I plan on asking her to lunch just for the hell of it(even if it is friends). I could try #-closing another girl while I'm hanging out with her or chatting some girls up.
