The worst thing I've realized is that I had become an old fart during my relationship, mostly because my ex-girlfriend didn't like to go out and didn't liked my friends.

Yes, her shitty life rubs off on you. This is why you must raise your standards and not settle for a woman of less quality than you deserve.

But first, you have to be realistic and learn to treat yourself better. I saw an interesting question that I have thought about a lot, and tried to work on this problem. We tend to treat ourselves badly, not take care of ourselves, and focus our attention on others. So consider this:

If someone else treated you the way you treat yourself, how long would you tolerate them?

Honestly, once you get past that one confidence stage of talking up a girl, and having it go well for the first time, it's a huge leap. Start chatting up girls more frequently, and, I bet you'll find a girl 10 times better than this girlfriend who didn't deserve you, and find someone who does deserve you.

If you're bored in social situations, it means you're understimulated, and I'm willing to bet it's because you're not really connecting with the people you're talking to. Don't be afraid to broach deeper conversational topics once you've opened sets--look for your own interests, the things you thrive on, the things that compel you. If you meet people you actually click with, you'll be able to spend straight hours with them.

As for the girl, the way to proceed is just to strike up a conversation and see where it goes. Enjoy yourself.
