Before I write this let me just say HOLY.SHIT. If anyone of you fellow newbies plans on approaching a big group of girls make sure your inner-game is airtight and you really focus on body language. It's almost an entirely different experience.
So before I even went out today I probably watched about 3 hours of RSD, practiced expressions in the mirror, and wrote down a kick-ass set meant for a group of 2-3. I wasn't focused on getting numbers tonight, I really just wanted to build momentum before this party tomorrow night.
So while I was at the mall I did some warm-up sets with the department store workers. I go into Pac-Sun and one of the workers I approached from a couple weeks ago actually remembered me and reminded me of who she was. She was really happy to see me again and recommended me to the store manager to work there (SCORE. planting seeds pays off). After that my state was peaking, but for some reason I still made those little excuses not to approach other girls. It was actually starting to get annoying, so I said the next girl I see I'm going to open with the set I've been working on. Around this time I see a big group of HB8-9's leaving a Claires or some shit. I was just about to let them go when I said Fuck it. I turned towards them and looked at them in the eyes and said "Excuse me can you help me with something? Can you help me with something?" My stutter was coming back but I held eye contact and spoke boldly. They seemed worried at first but they were willing to hear me out. It's funny because I spent so much time putting thought into what I was going to say next, but while I was facing them my mind couldn't put together the pieces. It felt like talking through a plastic bag. I held my cool and tried to articulate my thought but I had trouble addressing a group of that size. I could tell they were amused though and I didn't mind. They lost interest and said they had to go.
As pathetic as that sounds I couldn't be more proud of myself. I think it takes balls to approach a group of girls like that and even though it didn't work out this time I feel like I'll do at least 10x better the next. Besides, approaching girls got me a job today. I'm pretty happy for that.
Some things I'll focus on next time I approach a group like this
Don't stand too close, but close enough that you can see most of them.
Work on body language and enunciation. The reason they didn't take me seriously this time is because I was acting nervous. They could tell that I was intimidated.
Practice lines beforehand and be prepared for unexpected answers. If you're going to come up with clever routines make sure you know how to pull them off.
