I find the menus at a venue only to realize that a pretty girl is in the way. I start walking towards her without thinking and decide to greet her. "Hi," I say. I look into her eyes and feel warm and smiling. She is at first shocked, but then she realizes that some guy has approached her and looks flustered and flattered. "Can I see one of those menus?" I ask. I begin reaching across her for the menu. "Absolutely not," she says holding the menu down. At first, I get lightly frustrated and say, "C'mon." I realize she sees the fire in me and finds it amusing. I've been meditating and studying Buddhism. I note the feelings and find myself amused that this has happened despite myself. Seeing that she is genuinely happy about this, I can't help but also be happy with her. I smile broadly and find myself aroused. I put my hand on the menu. She holds it there. We look into each others eyes and have a kind of sexual-tension-filled standoff. After a time, I take the menu and say thank you. "You welcome," she says, in a teasing tone. The moment was so perfect that I instantly became afraid of spoiling it, so I walked away, satisfied but afraid of pursuing things further and ordered a drink. I did not see the girl again. I hung out with some crazy drunk guy who was mostly incoherent while listening to some wet-behind-the-ears musicians steal the stage. I also bullshitted with the bartender. It was a good night. I did not beat myself up over running away. I was at peace with the universe.
