I don't have much of a problem getting girls numbers. But I lack the ability to follow up. So much that I will put it off until I never even put the number to use. There's just nothing I can think of that I want to invite them to. Any ideas for first dates/how to follow-up?

Here are some basics ideas man:

Coffee, Lunch, Dinner, Walk around the park, Movie, etc. Just anything you can spontaneously do without much planning.

But there's also other. Check out local concert venues for upcoming artists, or you could make reservations at a nice restaurant. You could also try boating, fishing, or anything really.

You could ask her what she wants to do, which sounds beta, but you could possibly pull it off. Maybe something like this:

"Hey, we're going on a date tomorrow night. You choose where."

Or anything would work really. Just don't seem like a pushover / pussy.

I had this problem for a while as well. Invite her out to a bar or somthing with one or two of your friends and one or two of hers. The social setting puts less pressure on her and you. Advance to a real date from there. (advance as in next time you plan on seeing her, make it a real date) as mentioned below.

Probably coffee or lunch. Drinks if you are that kind of person. If you are ready to throw down a date right away dinner might be a good idea. You can tack on a walk or hike too. You don't have to go to a destination, you can just walk around a neighborhood or a park.
