Get the basics under control: hygiene, body odors (bad breath will fuck up your game), the way you dress etc. Most people have this department under control but if you're unsure you should probably post a pic of yourself in your party attire or something.
Read manosphere. Heartiste (Roissy), Rational Male are helpful in internalizing the alpha mindset.

Most importantly: Go out every night if you can – my biggest sticking point was not going out regularly, once a week doesn't make for consistency and lack of consistency makes the learning process slow as fuck; the reference points are all scattered and it's harder to notice patterns

This comment is much appreciated. One problem, I work, so the last point is nearly impossible for the amount of time I'm given. I lol'd at the 3rd point, not to be an ass but because it's true, and I've already started reducing that quickly. MY normal 'going out' attire consists of either jeans or some khaki shorts and just a tshirt or polo. I'll improve that in time, but that's good for now, right?

Most people have reasonable sense of fashion, so you're probably fine. On the other hand if you have no social circle and play games at home all day you probably haven't developed one.
I mentioned not fapping because it'll enhance your desire to fuck girls. You'll be more inclined to approach and break out of comfort zone, and have more willpower to go out.
If you can't go out every night, you should at least do some actions daily that put you out of comfort zone.

I've already started during my classes this morning, talking with people in general more than I did. And yes I totally understand the not fapping part, and agree completely. Also trying to break out of my video game phase as well, slowly but successfully. :) I will start going out more when I can, whether it be the mall, store, whatever, I WILL DO IT. Thanks again man!

Get up to speed on the theory while going out and taking action.
Read the Mystery Method book. Learn the M3 Model (the basis of all modern pickup methods) and go out to PRACTICE.

Where exactly would you recommend hitting up first? Mall, theater, campus? And could you provide an example of how I am to introduce myself to strangers? Yes, I lack knowledge..

The mall is a great daygame location IMO. Start with seated sets, they're easier.
As far as what to DO well...
Stage 1: use an OPENER. You will talk about whatever the opener's topic is about. ("Hey quick question, is khaki a color or a fabric? Ok get this...")
Stage 2: You will DHV using stories and other gambits.
Stage 3: Ask HER questions, get her to speak now. Tell her why you like her as a person.
... (and on and on).
It's all in the book. It is essential that you learn the M3 Model. It is the structure of solid pickup!

Get good at Stage 1 for now. If you master opening, this alone could change your life. Memorize a default opener that you can use over and over again. You want to have this automated.
Remember to use a FTC (False Time Constraint) if approaching girls that are seated. Here's an example of opening ....
Opener: over the shoulder Hey guys, quick question. Are you guys good with fashion advice by any chance?
Girls: blah blah
You: Ok get this I only have a minute, I have to get going (FTC, sit down as you say this), my friends and I were making fun of some frat boys, and got into an argument… is khaki a color or a fabric?
You : See, I was thinking it was a color, but the thing is that you never see a khaki car or wallpaper color or anything like that!
(and so on...)
Read the MM book and upload the M3 model in your head. Good luck!
