I'll put a TL;DR at the top, so read this if you'd like, or move on if this doesn't interest you; I'm a really scrawny guy (first year in college) and I'm now dating a very well known model.
So a bit about me: 19yo first year college student. I'm basically an ectomorph, so I am incredibly skinny (skinnier than a lot of girls), but I am fairly tall for an Asian (just above 6 ft). People tell me a dress fairly well, and I like to think that I'm a very funny, outgoing guy. The only self-confidence issues I've had recently were about my body, because I am nowhere near toned, I am just a really really skinny, tall guy. I've had a fair amount of success with girls, but I would not consider myself to be a ladies man or anything.
It all began in the first week of college. She (we'll call her A) lived on the same floor as me. I didn't know anyone in my residence, nor did I know anyone at this massive university (new to the city). So, me and a few of my suitemates went around and introduced ourselves to other suites, and I met A for the first time.
A is the same age as me, very tall (only about 2 inches shorter than me) and beautiful. I wouldn't even say 'oh she was so hot', because she was one of those girls that are just incredibly pretty. She modelled for the past 5 years in NY, Milan, Paris and Japan, did a lot of runway and was even on the cover of Vogue and Elle. Obviously I was initially attracted to her, but pretty much, all I thought was 'she's a model, she'd want to date some huge good looking white guy'.
The rest of the week was what you'd expect out of a frosh week at a university; parties, drinking, no classes, etc. Through the week, I became closer friends with her, and I got incredibly friendzoned. And we both knew it.
As the rest of the month passed by, we became incredibly close friends, and spent almost every day together. I knew I was friendzoned, probably brotherzoned now that I look back at it, but a lot of people asked if we were dating and we just laughed it off.
She made it pretty clear that she wasn't interested in me; often, she would talk about how she's not into asian guys. A real nail in the coffin was when she was talking about some other guy, and said 'oh, he's way too scrawny to be my type'. The dude was about twice my size.
But the pains of being friendzoned quickly faded because I valued her so much as a friend. But, sometimes, she would get a little bit physical, especially when she started sleeping over on late night study nights, and we would cuddle, etc. But I knew in the back of my head that she wasn't interested in me (all the times she said she wasn't into guys my type), and I thought she was being one of those girls who are somewhat flirty with their close guy friends.
Knowing that, one thanksgiving weekend, she went home to see her family. Our residence was about 70% vacant after everyone left, so we just had a big party. One thing led to another, and I ended up F-closing with HB8, which I was pretty proud of.
Fast forward to the following monday, where A came back and I told her about my F-close. I was originally not going to tell her, but being in a secluded residence, news is bound to get around to everyone, and I didn't want her to find out through someone else. She got mad (because she thought the HB8 was a whore), and acted very cold for the rest of the day.
That evening, as we were laying in bed, I hugged her and told her my story. Everything about how I liked A when i first met her, and became ok with being friendzoned because I valued her so much as a friend. About how sometimes things would get a bit physical and flirty and although I was 99.99% sure that we were just friends, there was a part in my head that wondered if there ever was a chance.
Then she began crying. Told me that she liked me a lot. At this point, I thought my heart literally sank all the way down to my balls.
She told me she thought I didn't like her. I was shocked, astounded, but also incredibly happy. We talked about everything. We kept distance the next day, but then we talked again, worked things out, and now we're dating (incredibly happily).
If you're still reading this, I hope you liked my story, but here's the important part. The point of telling this story wasn't to show off about how I got such an amazing girl, but to share with you the things that I learned from this experience, in hopes that some of you find value in it:
1 If you don't like something about yourself, change it. If you don't want to change it, work with it.
I hated being scrawny, but for the love of god I couldn't change it. I worked out, took mass gainers, and did everything I could but my body's metabolism was just too fast, and I gained almost no weight over the period of a few months. So, I decided to just live with it. Turns out, A really liked guys that were really skinny, and to this day she still tells me how much she likes my body. So, if you've got something you don't like, really put in an effort to change it. If you don't want to, or you can't, know that there are girls out there who are either cool with it, or actually like what you have.
2 Girls definitely look for personality in guys.
A once showed me a photo of a guy she shot with, and said something about how good looking he was. And she was right. This dude was unfairly good looking. But as I was friendzoned, I was able to really be myself (excuse the cliche), and that's when a lot of my personality, humor, etc came out, and that's what made A like me so much (according to her). So, don't be afraid to be bold in your personality, and take risks in showing a lot of your personality. Because a girl's attraction to a personality is a lot stronger than a girl's attraction to physical appearance.
3 Finish a book before starting another.
As great as the HB8 was, if I could go back in time, I would not have done what I did. I knew in my head that there was a sliver of chance that I had a future with A, and knowing that, I should've held off on doing anything until I knew A was hopeless. To ensure there's no regrets or screwups in the future, make sure that a whatever you're in with a girl (if it's serious), is finished before moving on.
I hope this helps at least one person out there. If not, I hope you just had a good read at least. If you have any questions, I could answer them.
Thanks for reading :)
