I have my doubts whether vicarious interaction through TV is a substitute for real-world practice. Worse, TV can often generate unrealistic expectations (Mad Men being a notable exception, among a select few). This is likely because most TV is not meant to educate grownup men but to entertain teenagers -- and most series still do a shitty job even with that limited aim; note that 5 seasons is considered an extraordinary lifespan. I'll grant you that any medium can be used well or used poorly, but if TV were really a good dating resource, then considering the average number of hours we learn from it, we shouldn't be seeing such widespread dating difficulties.

It's exactly because TV and popular culture generally are failing to equip the average man that the PUA community has grown so quickly.
