I was sitting in a bar last night with a girl and a guy, and they went up to the bar to get us drinks. Beside us was a table of 3 girls so when my friends left I opened the set.

I went for a Mystery opener

Me: I need your opinion on something

HB8: No

She turned away. Her friend at the other side of the table then asked

HB7: What?

Me: I need your opinion on something

HB8: turns back round Oh I thought you said something else. What is it?

I could tell at this point HB8 was a bit stuckup, a potential bitch.

Me: [I did an opener whereby a friend of mine's gf found a box of nudes of his ex under his bed]

Then we all chatted for a bit, HB7, HB8 and HB8.5. They all had boyfriends but that didn't affect the conversation negatively and I gave no negative reaction when they threw they boyfriends into the conversation. For example, they would say "if I found nudes under my boyfriend's bed..." etc.

The conversation coincidentally came to a natural end when my two friends came back from the bar. Great timing by chance. My aim was to not be sitting alone for 5mins, so mission was accomplished. Even though they were pretty, I was out with ~10 girls I had just met at a house party and didn't need to open any sets, so I honestly only wanted company for a few minutes.

A few seconds later, I turned back to my two friends and we were talking about whether to stay down in this bar or go back up to the club. Right when I was being asked this by the girl I was with, I heard HB8 say "that was chatup" about me to HB7 and HB8.5. I'm not sure how I feel about that. HB8 was definitely the bitch of the group as the other two seemed really lovely.

I don't feel demotivated or anything, but I feel kind of funny. I've opened quite a lot of sets like that. I feel like I did well, engaged everyone in the group, leaned back, made a few funny jokes, the conversation flowed well. Then for her to just say "that was chatup" as if she said it as a matter of fact... She thought I couldn't hear her. I just don't know how I feel about this.

I ultimately don't care because it was mission accomplished in my book. Does anyone else find that weird, or has anyone had a similar experience?
