"I'm sorry I'm not looking for anything serious right now." Honest, maybe not soft, but the softer you get, the less honest you will be, and honesty always works out better.
You come off better the earlier you bring it up, and it's a red light with far fewer girls than you'd think (in England anyway, can't speak for everywhere).

Yeah, the dark side of seduction! I usually try to be vague a day or two, meaning no immediate replies to anything, and sometimes no reply at all. Then just say, "Hey, I think you're really great, but I'm looking for someone that I have more in common with up front." Obviously expand on that, but the point is to let them down, without slinging mud. You can also Google for things like "not interested second date" or something like that, and get a bunch of pages from relationship advice. Lastly, you can also try posting in /r/dating_advice. Be vague
I consider this bad advice: you're both adults, be straightforward I'm saying you're not interested in more. It is "slinging mud" in one sense that you're basically stating "you don't meet my standards for a relationship."
