Dancefloor game has been a frequent topic on this forum. I have always liked dancing, but had trouble with combining dancing and gaming. The first few times I went out to a dancefloor related area, I approached the situation in the typical beta way: looking around at the girls, trying to dance up behind them after awkwardly staring, and then inevitably being rejected. And I would look around to see that I was not the only one. I was one of about half the guys who just stared at girls and sipped on shitty beer.
So, I changed my game. When I went out, I went out to have FUN. I went out by myself even, but I went out to have fun for me. No one else. Also, I decided I wouldn't use alcohol as a crutch. Next few times I went to the club or a bar, I went to the center of the dance floor, I let the music take hold, focused on just having a fucking blast.
Sometimes, it can be hard to get motivated or get the energy. Usually a redbull/iced coffee/screaming Nirvana in the car will fix this to get you pumped up. Here are a few steps to keep in mind while you're on the dancefloor.
Dancing Tips
1) Keep the basic rhythm of the music. If you can't do it by feel, then you can listen to the downbeat or the bass. Choose one and stick to it.
2) Never stop dancing. Doesn't matter if you're making your way past a crowded area, waiting in line for the bathroom, or ordering a drink. Keep moving to the music. Trust me, people will notice.
3) Don't give a fuck about what other people think. This one is huge. You are dancing FOR YOURSELF. Not to impress some girl, but because you are having a fucking blast. This mindset will be self-evident if you're having a blast and not thinking about other people.
4) Once you get the basic beat down, make sure to use your hips. I learned in salsa class that the best way to move your hips is not to physically move your hips but to bend your knees. Always have your knees a little bit bent too, because it'll provide better balance.
5) One of the universal signs of enjoyment and confidence is putting your hands in the air. If you're really feeling the music, put your HANDS UP! I do this thing where I move my hands back and forth to the beat while I'm in the air. People love this shit.
6) Energize the dancefloor, especially when its less than spectacular. One of the best ways to obtain social proof from the whole crowd is to get everyone energized. I do this thing where I push my palms up in a "let's get the party started" way. Sounds corny..but it works.
Approaching Tips
1) Keep your head up and your eyes open. I had a huge problem of closing my eyes the first several times. However, you'll miss making eye contact with all the girls that are looking at your awesome dance moves.
2) If you lock eyes with a girl, move up to her immediately. No thinking, just fucking do it. Grab her hand and pull her in, or grab her hand and spin her. Girls love to be twirled.
3) If you have even more confidence then tell the girl to come to you. Use one finger or your hand in a "come hither" motion. MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT.
4) You won't always have the luxury of eye contact. One thing I do is go up next to a girl or behind a girl (with my back towards her back). You need to be highly aware of your space while you're dancing. I like to do an ass bump if i'm by their side, or if I twerk (lulz) up on a girl. More often than not, the girl reciprocates, especially if I've already been enjoying my time.
5) Girls are highly aware of their environment. If you were having fun before you even approached and you're the life of the dance floor, you will notice many times that girls will gradually migrate towards you. This is not in your head, its because you're fucking awesome, and girls want to dance with you! So man up and go rock their world.
6) Escalate Escalate Escalate. This post is already long, so I'll make a separate post detailing dancefloor escalation later. Its something I'm still mastering as well.
I've had so much fun going out and dancing. Its gotten to the point now where I can walk onto a dancefloor and control (I use that word loosely) the whole floor. People form circles around me, girls come up to grind on me. A girl the other week told me "your dancing is very arousing." I'm not tall or good looking either, so you should know you guys can't use that shit as an excuse. By just going out consistently and making a real effort for the past few weeks, my dancing skill level has improved dramatically. Remember, its not about how good of a dancer you are, but how much FUN you're having while doing it. Now, go out there and wreck shit.
