I agree with Jeff, this sounds more like you actually being insecure and over-analyzing.

If you're actually dealing with a problem where guys are somehow subtly trying to emasculate you, give us more details about the interactions. What was the situation, what did you do, how did they look at you, what was your reaction, why exactly do you think they were basically calling you out in a subtle way?

Diffuse and Ignore.

The thing about being alpha, is that alpha doesn't TRY to be alpha, he just is.

Subtle or otherwise, your best bet is to ignore it as if you didn't even notice. If you know their names then don't respond with "bud" or "buddy" use their names and treat them like a long lost friend or something.

Give them a big hug when they put their arm on your shoulders, getting into their personal space, let them think you might be a little gay (because you don't care what their perception of you is and you are secure in your manhood), making him question your intentions toward him will throw him off his game too.

Point to him and smile at the girl/s, "This guy is great isn't he?" if you know him (make him introduce himself though), if you don't know him then give him a big hug and say something like "Now that's how you greet a man properly. But you won't get more until you introduce yourself."

Anything but standing there letting them do it, unless you completely ignore them...problem with completely ignoring them is to come off cold or assholish.

If it all works out, you got yourself an unintentional DHV from them.

TL:DR - Do something to demonstrate that they didn't make you uncomfortable, then ignore them.

Actually its the opposite. If someone calls you bud or buddy and you show that you are affected by this, THATS what makes you uncool, insecure, or "un-alpha". Its not what life throws at you, or what other people say about you that determines your "alpha-ness", its how you react and handle these situations that demonstrates it. The fact that he called you pal doesn't make you look bad, its how you react that makes you look bad (or good if you handle it well.)

Someone calls you bud or buddy? No big deal. It doesn't affect you. Obviously you are going act differently if someone says "hey whats up bro! haven't seen you in forever" or a "hey pal", but you should never try to get him back. Even in the situation where they are trying to AMOG you (which usually isn't the case) either smile and say "hey.." as if to say "really? is this happening?" or in extreme cases raise your eyebrow as if to say "really dude? really?" then give a small smile and say hey back. Just remember, YOU ARE ABOVE all this petty shit that people try to do, and that is "true-alpha", not this over-masculine alpha bullshit.
