I won't say never use a compliment opener. It is not a good idea usually though. If you compliment, compliment her shoes, handbag, shirt, anything that does not directly compliment her. If you compliment her directly (ex. your beautiful) it can come as "I like you, now you talk" which is not attractive. If you know her already my preferred method is to ball-bust. If i see her wearing a shiny necklace I'd say "wow I wasn't sure that was you. The light was shining from that crazy loud necklace your wearing." I say this with a cocky smirk and hit her on the arm. Shows confidence with a you can take it or leave it mentality, you kino, and convey vague interest with the smirk. As the saying goes, there's many ways to skin a cat. That's my preferred method for those scenarios. I just noticed this as well.

Simple: you get on like you were never apart. Start with a warm hug and an enthusiastic greeting. Start bullshitting about your little inside jokes like you just saw her yesterday. Bust her chops in a friendly way, joke around with her, gossip about other people you know if you have to.

In short: treat her like a buddy who you also have sex with.
