Have you ever been in a situation where you were forced to talk to a stranger? Something simple like asking directions, ordering food etc.

Many of you will say yes. From my experience, you don't experience any anxiety because you are more focused on getting something done.

A few months ago I was picking up a date from a different university and I could not find the dorm building she lived in. So I stopped the first person i saw. It ended up being two gorgeous girls in dresses that appeared to be going out soon. There was no anxiety what so ever due to it being necessary. It was eye opening to say the least.

So if there is anything to take away from this: approach anxiety is sub-conscious thought. If you've been forced to talk to a stranger, you have the ability to overcome AA since you already proved you can talk to anyone without feeling that fear.

This idea can also be used for practice. Approach strangers and ask for directions.
