Think about what people have to offer you as much as what you have to offer them. Your issue comes from undervaluing yourself and overvaluing your company.

I might be misunderstanding your desire, but I think you might want to be more assertive.

People who are assertive get what they want, not by controlling others, but by controlling themselves. There is tons of literature on this (it's basically Habit 1 of the seven habits of highly effective people book by Steven Covey), but the first step is to be proactive.

Being proactive/assertive is all about knowing yourself and taking control. It applies to a lot of areas in your life, but with relationships it's all about making your own decisions. Don't be the person trying to make everyone else happy or cater to other people. Be someone who takes care of you own needs in addition to other's.

I know exactly what you mean and I also struggle with this myself sometimes. If you want people to be interested in you and to impress you instead of someone else, you have to be interested in those people in the first place. Just like nadethan mentions to be proactive, try to be the guy that shows interest in people and let others fill those awkward pauses.

That is not the adjective you're looking for.

Its called being assertive. There's a huge difference between not letting yourself get pushed and pushing others.
