Romance novels are shit. Romantic films are shit. They pander to the surface emotions of a woman.

I could write a whole damn book on why these things are ruining relationships and marriages, but here's the jist of it: Women say they want a man to chase and chase. To sweep them off their feet. But! He has to be exquisitely handsome. He has to have an amazing body. He has to be tall. He has to be very smart. He has to be rich (or at least have the characteristics or a wealthy and influential man). AND, he has to put up with the unending levels of bullshit women throw at him, until they realize he was the one for them from the very start.

It's a giant farce that puts women into the wrong mindset. As much as women want it to be this way, life isn't a romance novel.

If you really want to delve deeper into the psychology of women I suggest you do some research on human sexuality, evolutionary psychology, and women studies. There are infinitely better resources out there, and I suggest you block from your mind the idea that you have to be some sort of prince charming to attract women. That's how you become a nice guy, a boyfriend, and loser. You are a lover, not a boyfriend.

The only reason to read romance novel would be to learn exactly what NOT to do attract women.
