Whoever told you that being straight up with her was a bad idea, isn't helping you.

If you really have such a good relationship, just talk to her about it. Ask her if there's something 'here' or not. If there is, amazing, women are people too and are subject to the same insecurities and nerves as anyone else, maybe this is her way of working through it.

If there isn't, she might be interested in how her actions can be perceived/misconstrued by others.

The cynical advice would be to get drunk together and make a move that you can always blame on the booze if it doesn't end well.

This can mean anything, but at least it means she is comfortable with you.

This in context is an IOI, but also it can be just a used to behaviour. I have a friend that does it also from time to time.

she keeps mentioning this girl who I liked a while ago and had a thing for (this girl and I, are basically like twins, we have the same sense of style and personality)

Depending on what she mentions about her, i would say she is interested in what is going on in your life: comfort.

her voice gets really high and her speech gets really fast around me, sometimes its hard to understand what she says, but around other people its slower, more soft.

This could be nervousness, but i could be wrong.

Close friends had noticed this. She just says she is just comfortable around me - overall I just think her vibe is more nervous around me, like she has become very talkative or she goes very quiet. -

Thats what i think too, she is comfortable with you, but sometims nervous beacause of whatever reason.

yesterday at drinks, she moved her chair closer, then she randomly sat in my lap (surly friend do not do this?)

I have a friend that is very touchy with me, and i know her for 20+ years now. In all those years she did things that i normally would not attribute to friends, but for her it was just like she behaves with everyone she feels comfortabe with.

The thing is, dont try to pick up on hints, or think about if she likes you or not, this does not give you results. It makes you overthink things, it makes you chicken out on opportunities. Always assume attraction, and in your case i would say she IS attracted. The only thing that makes this thing a bit complicated, at least in her view, is that she probably is not sure what to make of it. Since you are friends, she will probably believe that this will complicate things. It is up to you to make that decision, and convey that you have it under control. Right now she likely can not even say what she feels for you, either it be attraction or just friendship, but that is normal.

It is up to you to take action, and you should be bold, not overthinking or second guessing. Just escalate, and watch closely for her reaction. If you feel that she gets uncomfortable, slow down til she gets comfortable again. I am pretty sure she wants you on a subconsciuos level.

I'm definitely seeing some IOIs, um it really depends on the intentions you have. Do you really like her, do you want to escalate? Be honest with yourself. If you do want to escalate then do so. Be straight up with her. The best is to get her at her peak flirtatious. When you're hugging or being really touchy Feely is your best opportunity to tell her how you feel and maybe even go in for a kiss. It could go both ways but if she's being flirtatious and touchy those will he the best opps to take advantage. Tell her how you feel,. Don't say hey I think you like me or hey do you like me? No tell her your intentions, say hey I know we're good friends but I think you're awesome and want to make it more. Be direct, don't be a whimp, if she says no, don't act depressed, say okay it was worth a shot, so what are we doing tonight? As if it's no big deal, the less you make it a big deal the less she will.
