I don't understand why you wouldn't say where you are from...Can you explain this aspect? I get you're trying to skip the small talk, but it just seems unnecessary and unnatural. Maybe I'm being over analytical, but your response makes it seem like you're trying to hide something, or avoid something from your past. How often do these types of responses work? Not trying to criticize, just understand the approach.

Be wary of this scenario. I'm sure it works sometimes but my x used to complain when people try to talk to her as she runs.
