I'm trying to understand what makes these people so awesome, because in my opinion those are the type of people that don't need 'game', but are so great to be around that they attract a lot of people.

(For example, when I went to college, I met a local DJ who took time out to teach me- I found out that he had a background in architecture and decided it wasn't for him. Out of money, he somehow traveled around the world working odd jobs and making friends with locals. And now (years later), he is back as a chef and DJ, because he likes it.

I think what makes him awesome is that he didnt give a fuck that he invested years of his life into something that is supposed to be prestigious, and decided to follow his passion).
