The highschool sub is /r/highseddit. Women need to be approachable and men need to approach. That's why when people talk about being approachable and resting bitch face, it's usually women. Be social, smile, talk to everyone, men and women.

Make yourself approachable by being lighter in your mind. What do I mean by this, I mean, be positive in your thinking. Be light hearted, and don't take things seriously. If you KNOW you have a resting bitch face, then work on smiling.

On the other hand, waiting to be approached by girls is senseless and is a waste. As a man, you have the freedom to approach ANY girl you want. Girls don't have that same TYPE of freedom. Why are you giving that up? If you want to be approachable, approach people with a positive mindset. They'll come talk to you if you're not judging, and have a light heart.

High school is fucking terrible. I remember the risks of just saying "hello" to the wrong person and getting an eye roll, laughs then rumors spread just from one word and I imagine with the extent of social network it hasn't gotten much better. I, too, was shy and girls avoided talking to me. Then I realized why: They had no reason to talk to me. I went to school, faded into the background, had no interests other than studying and hobbies I did on my own. I found music, started listening to punk like Dead Kennedies and Subhumans, learned an instrument, got an interest, learned to play drums and suddenly had a large social group of friends who all started out just like me. It's not about just talking to a girl. That's a recipe for disaster, especially if they don't know you exist. Find something you are passionate about and excel in it. And video games or solitary hobbies don't count. Give someone a reason to want to talk to you.

what are some tips for overcoming my shyness and making myself more approachable to girls.

Be active, approach yourself, rather than staying passive, waiting for a girl to approach you.
