This is not a good way to do things. If you haven't spoken to them in a while they will usually find it creepy. My gf has had a few people do this to her and it's just pathetic or like I said creepy.

Face to face interaction is almost always the way to go. The only way I see this working is if you're aiming for the friend zone. If you like making connections through social media make a Tinder. Honestly forget everyone from high school and move on to newer connections.
