For the past few months I’ve been focusing very hard on my career ambitions (switched from management consulting to a top startup). I’ve always been the most ambitious person and have read books/articles about how to succeed in business just as much as I have on succeeding with girls. The past few months got me to starting thinking about similarities and differences between the social skills you need to succeed in both places.

Similarities

  1. Body language, eye contact, posture, and voice
  2. Being high-energy
  3. Exuding confidence

Differences

  1. Being non-needy: while this generally works with attracting women, I've found that you do in fact need to show others a lot of attention (not necessarily neediness) and show interest in them in the business world to succeed.
  2. Negging - definitely the opposite of how you want to behave in the corporate world
  3. Polarizing - When you walk into a party full of girls, its fine to be yourself 100% and turn off some of the girls while turning others. In the business world, not so much. Sometimes you're stuck on a team with the same people for a long time and it's not a good idea to polarize people; rather you need to make everyone like you.

The main reason why I think it's important is because of how we train ourselves to act. I've found that in times where I'm focused on girls and my game - that attitude spills over into the corporate office. And when I'm putting all my energy into work and my career, I get a bit less risk-taking with girls.
