Went to a big welcome event at my uni today with some friends and was eager to put the knowledge I gained from this subreddit to the test. It was difficult getting over the approach anxiety for the first couple hours, but after a few awkward attempts I was able to approach comfortably and confidently.

After talking and meeting with some people, I ended up with a group of friends who already had a few girls lingering around. Before I even had the chance to introduce myself, I noticed one of the girls making her way closer to me and talking a little loudly. Immediately I picked up on this and turned to face her and started talking. I must say that eye contact is ESSENTIAL, just by staring into her eyes I could tell she wanted more and was instantly clingy. We made conversation, she mentioned that she had seen me around frequently on campus and how she "wasn't sure if it was me", I took the opportunity to play it off with a bit of sarcasm and pulled out my phone before leaving (after asking whether or not she commuted or lived on campus). No fancy pick up line, no witty comment, just handed her the phone with the contact app open. I told her to text me sometime, she said she will, and reached in for a hug.

My biggest takeaways from this would be: maintain eye contact and stay confident. Big thanks to everyone on the sub who's contributed and helped others gain some confidence
