Just watched the Emma Watson video about feminism and was thinking about her comments on wage gaps. I thought she was on point for the majority of the video but we'll leave that opinion to the side.

I realize that, on average, men work in higher paying positions.

I realize that two people, a man and a woman, working the same role their whole lives will earn a different amount as statistically she will take more time off because of her children.

I realize a human resource department cannot pay a man and woman different rates for the exact same job as they would get crucified by the media. Also, human resources is dominated by women.

What I want to ask is do you think that jobs that require you to negotiate your salary with your boss have a wage gap between genders? There are plenty of office roles throughout the western world where once a year you sit down with your boss and talk remuneration. Your yearly salary depends on your negotiation skills and how your boss believes you perform in your role. Does gender play a part in this? Is there evidence for or against?
