Im sure you guys have heard this before but how do you start a conversation with a girl anywhere outside of a barscene? Im really struggling here.

Read the sidebar help, especially on approach anxiety.
"How do i approach a girl?" is a beginners topic, so belongs in /r/askseddit. The board you are currently in is intermediate.
In that case: An autoshow has a ton of props (cars, etc) and a common theme people there are interested in (cars), so you could have opened with a related topic (cars).
An autoshow may not be the best place to meet women.
You can also find tons of openers by googling.

I would get social first by having conversations with different people to get warmed up. Makes a big difference because now you'll have a social vibe to you when you go say hi.
