It always depends on the girl but in general, yeah, they care. They don't want to seem easy or to be called sluts. This is why you should at least be friendly towards her friends. Frame the situation as "meeting someone cool" instead of "getting picked up".

There is the basic concept in pick-up of ASD. In simple terms, it is basically the idea that our culture leads to women often being made to feel shitty about being openly sexual.

Girls often police themselves, slut-shaming themselves, often more than guys actually do.
Sometimes these beliefs can become ingrained and girl will internally slut-shame herself even if no one else is around. Especially if she was raised in a religious family.

Anytime you're physically escalating with a girl, there's a risk of "activating" ASD. Depending on whether she has slut-shaming beliefs ingrained, it may be something that is a risk no matter what. But that risk goes up according to whether:

She's being escalated with in public
She's being escalated with in front of people people she knows (acquaintances)
And the highest risk being if she's being escalated with in front of her friends.

Knowing that ASD is a thing, this means that physical escalation can certainly still happen, but you've got to be savvy about it. (Some girls really won't care, but you're screening out a lot of girls unnecessarily, if you plow forward without any regard for ASD.)

There's no way to avoid triggering her own internal slut-shaming, but you can certainly fly under the radar and change escalation from a public display, into something exciting, rebellious, dangerous, etc. Escalating clearly to her, while no one else knows what is going on? Definitely has a powerful effect.

Some examples of ways to fly under the radar:

Don't go full-court press in public. Taking her temperature by testing her reaction to you sitting closer to her, casual, brief but firm touches to non-sexual places, etc.
If you push the envelope, do so when you're not in public view.
If you think you have clearance to touch her leg, under the table is better than out in full view.
Any contact you get doesn't have to appear outwardly seductive. Example: A handshake with a little bit of playfulness, lingering contact, etc., will be less obvious than getting all up in her grill.
Incidental contact, like accidentally brushing up against each other, can be played with a little, to huge effect. And a lot of it won't be noticeable from the outside at all.

The basic overall idea is that you have options to escalate that can go pretty far, without seeming outwardly as obvious, which brings down the risk of ASD.
