You don't keep texting to keep the rapport going. That actually kills it. Whatever you did to the point she called you "cute" is probably fine. Then get the number, set a date, and end it. That's how you avoid the awkward silence which you're worried about.

Turn the attention away from you and on to them. They wanna hear from you that you think they are attractive and worthy of your time. Just ask them questions about themselves and trust your gut. Like anything else you'll become better in time, make sure they hear from you your opinions about them. Compliment physical features and things you like about their personality. Girls also like a mystery so don't reveal everything about yourself right away and leave room for discovery on their part.
