You're 14. If I were you I'd focus on making a ton of friends. Play sport, join clubs and do extracurriculars. Once you do that it'll be easier to meet and attract girls.

Asking to follow is weak and beta.

You need to show confidence in yourself, your looks, your decisions and your life.

What you say when you approach is not of much importance, you could merely say "hi" and it wouldn't matter.

How you approach is important however.

never approach from the back, it's a 100% blow out rate ; you WILL get shot down for this
approach from the front, at a slight angle
use an opinion opener (topic doesn't matter much to be fair, the idea is just to get conversation started)
state your time constraint so they don't think you're gonna stick with them all day long
quick example : "so hey look, I'm gonna have to rejoin my friends but first I wanted your opinion on this : "my friend here, he's in a relationship with this chick and one day she found female undies in his room; now she's like all savage on him right ? so he goes and tells her it's his, he likes to dress up. Thing is, now she's actually making him wear it, says it's a turn on ! Whatcha think, he should tell her the truth or keep dressing up ?"
whatever they reply, try and get some kino going on. Girl A goes "noooo no way it's too much fun he should keep doing it !" you bust her for it "no wayyy you're such a mean person, amagod I could never hang with you; (to her friend) she always like this ? bad girl" , as you deliver this kind of line you touch girl A on the upper arm
stick around for a couple more lines, then excuse yourself cause you have to go. Next time you speak to them, they'll remember, they may even ask for news of your friend

On a side note, being nervous is normal but not desirable.

Nervousness comes from our tribal existence wherein when a male was rejected, the whole tribe would know and shun him.

This no longer has a place in modern societies, so you have nothing to be nervous about.

You get shot down by a girl ? her loss, she's missing out on knowing you.

If I had to give you just the one piece of advice, it'd be to develop and nurture confidence in yourself.

Life not going how you'd like it ? Son, out of several thousand sperm, you're the one made it to the finish line. You won at least once already, build on that.
