Was this on dance floor? If yes, take her hand and do little spin or something similar, works for me :)
Make sure to make eye contact, don't do it stealthy (is that a word? ) and with smile. If she started by rubbing, you should escalate

Well, if you're thinking about dancing, you ought to be on the dance floor already. This shouldn't be complicated. If they're expressing "interest," you're most likely going to be on or near the dance floor anyway.

So just....... go there. Gesture or nod towards the floor if they're not there alraedy.

Since you didn't react well and they left, it's difficult to impossible to know what they were up to. Sometimes girls will legitmately clown a guy they think looks like a newb at the club. It's mean, but it happens.

If you had reacted and started interacting with them, you would have found out. But since you acted like a club is a place to be afraid of people, they left.

I was flattered but as I'm a novice to clubs, I had no idea what to do..... I felt very awkward and almost intimidated as these girls were good looking.....

No. You didn't appear disinterested. Your fear and awkwardness were clear in a situation like that.

But really, it was fear blinding you. You knew what to do. Clubs are a place for having fun. It didn't matter WHAT you did, as long as you did SOMETHING. Instead of looking lost when people were offering fun.

But don't beat yourself up too badly. It happens to everyone. At 19, I sucked badly when I went to a club.

There isn't really different "game" in a club, per se. The basics are the same. Confidence, enjoy yourself, and PAY ATTENTION.
As part of paying attention, you're at a club. Which means you need to acclimate. People didn't come there to be afraid. They came to HAVE FUN. So you need to do whatever it takes to get to that state of mind. Not wondering, oh, is this okay? Or is this okay? or this? NO. Fuck that. You go to a club because you like dancing. So go dance. Listen to the music. And so on. It's not a complicated formula. What you're asking is like asking, "How do I enjoy music?" You just fucking do it.

Just be confident and relax a bit. Try and get into the state of mind of not being intimidated by girls just go for it. Hold their hand, dance with them. Let her grind on you. Hold her close and lead her with your hands on her hips.

My trick is that before you go out clubbing where you know you'll be around girls, mentally run through the situation of going up to them in your head; like a simulation.

Sportsman use this trick all the time and humans are the only animal that can simulate a situation in their heads which people should utilise more in my opinion.

Eye contact, smile, give them a little spin, dance in front of them for about a minute or two to build a connection, place your hands on their hips/waist, if they smile back or seem interested start breaking out those sweet dance moves (whatever they may be). Finally, don't forget to be respectful!

Follow these steps and you should be golden.
