Depends on the date (first date versus like a third date) and what you're looking for. Honestly, I think it's better to steer clear entirely unless she brings it up. For example, finding out this girl cheated on her last long-term partner when you only want a FWB doesn't seem very important.

Focus on the here and now, not on the past. Save past "relationship" talk for the bedroom when talking about what you both like/dislike.

Initially, it SHOULD be all about the fun and trying to get to know what makes this girl tick and sharing what makes you tick. Emotions, motivations, and character traits; you should be trying to get to the bottom of those things in her.

Pretty much, asking about her relationship history is NEVER something you need to get into. She might volunteer something on her own at some point, but most of the time when guys want to ask a girl this question, it's rooted in massive insecurity and it's just a bad idea to cater to that.

You don't need to know her history because that's literally in the past. Deal with the "now."

Focus on who she is now, what she's about, and how you guys are together.

After things escalate past kissing or sex, you might start thinking about having some sort of talk to establish where you're going with it, if you don't want something serious.

As for if you want something serious, honestly, that's the default assumption if you start spending more time with a girl and sex has happened. You could have a talk later on down the line, like a month or two, but honestly, it usually comes up and is settled without fanfare or some serious talk.

If you don't have the social skills to maintain small talk than you could pick up a few scripts from PUA and modify them to suit your need.

There are no rules, I find what works best is small talk + invite back to your place, and make a move
