Honestly, this depends on how good you are.

If you are so used to getting laid on the first date or its really easy for you to do then it would be fair to see it as a failure to not get laid on the first date.

You measure yourself against yourself and if you know you can do better then its fair to be disappointed.

Do you think this is the case or would you feel like a failure if you don't have sex on the first date even if you weren't that good?

Third date is a pretty reasonable expectation. A woman needs to feel safe first and thast takes a certain amount of time. Occasionally you might make it happen on the first or second date. Sometimes it may take longer, but to assume 1st date with every woman is going to be pushing it.
