A: Dinner is a terrible first date. It's really hard to not put her on a pedestal when you're spending $50-75 on her. B: be more honest with her, meaning don't hide your intentions or act like what you're suggesting is unusual. If she doesn't know that you're interested in her then she'll automatically reject you either for her perceived lack of interest or for you not having the balls to tell her. It's entirely possible that she knows you've been attracted to her for a long time and has already closed off the idea of dating you. If this is true, its pretty much game over. Girls don't really flip on that. Next time try to be more upfront with her.
Did she tell you she was bringing other people to your date? You should have said no. If she didn't, you needed to be clearer about it being a date and not pussyfoot around it
Also, don't worry about the friendship. You clearly don't want to be friends. Stick up for what you want. Whichever way you go with a girl on friends vs dating, go whole hog. Don't try to waver between the two, it just makes her lose respect. You'll end up as a friend she can't even trust, which is worse than being successful at either

Or you know, you could just call her right now, stop being a pussy, and tell her you feel sexually attracted to her and that you want to take her on a date or for drinks.
