I'm not an expert, but I do recall some details from an excellent article I came across not-so-long-ago.

Basically, the cultural expectation in Japan for your average dude is to wife a woman up-- hand her his paycheck, and go to work at a shitty job with shitty hours, and be happy with whatever she hands him as an allowance.

Basically--- your average chump is expected to be a foot-stool on the job, (with none of the guarantees your average japanese "company man" had in the past), and an ATM at home.

And you can bet your ass that your garden variety japanese woman isn't going to be satisfied with an explanation about how the world doesn't work the way that it used to. Fuck you-- what have you done for me lately?

So, according to the article, a growing number of guys are realizing they can just reject the whole thing-- work a lesser job, and still have way more money to themselves, because they're not signing over their whole paycheck to their woman and accepting what she deigns to 'allow' them.

Apparently it's a fairly customary, ironclad expectation in Japan that the man gives the woman his check.

So-- after reading all of that, (in greater detail) I've come to feel like the whole Herbivore thing is a little more relateable. In essence, they're basically a Japanese MGTOW.

More and more often they want to spend time as Woo Girls at some point, then rustle up some BB before 30. The Wall is still conceptually earlier (they call girls over 25 a Christmas Cake — nobody wants it after the 25th).

You're reading about trends reported by sensationalist and usually unconventional media types.

If you visit Japan, normal relationships are there.

Your point of view is distorted by western media reporting things that make for good clickbait.

Japanese culture can easily be seen as city life vs county life. In the city, women want to live these fashionable lifestyles, fuck alphas, and choose to have children late. That is because Japan has something called arranged marriage. Women can submit themselves and be matched to a partner based on agreed traits. Usually economic.

Many men in Japan get their sexual needs from abundant prostitution or handjob services. It's accepted that even married men will do this.

Even gay people marry and "settle down" in Japan because societal expectations and those of the family (continuing the line) are real.

In Japan, the individual vs the group is not even a discussion. You have freedom, but you also have very defined roles and limitations. Women are not expected to work past marriage, so are rarely promoted past OL (office lady).

Without it becoming a huge Japan discussion, ignore what you read in the media. Women in Japan still love alpha men, and most city women live like princesses until they hit the fertility wall. Then it's a beta man via miai arranged marriage.

The Japanese primary concern in marriage is:

Money
Social standing (there are many shunned classes in Japan, like Burakumin)
Love

If you want to read up on the Japanese equivalent of the alpha, read up on "nanpa" or the art of picking up women cold, on the street and banging them. It happens, women are so rarely solicited that you can find women easily, the only problem being many of them will be virgins and the sex will suck.

If you're white and blonde, you'll be knee deep in pussy as they have fantasies about blonde men (thanks disney) and western traits of kissing, holding hands, more direct sexual motions are so foreign to them they don't react like they would to a Japanese guy. Japanese men can date for months and not even have a kiss, let alone sex.
