I'm happily married, and have been so to the same woman for about 24 years. We have sex (almost) as often as I like. I generally lead the household decisions, but I'm currently working on getting more granular control over how some things are done around here.

I took Herself to Ashville and Biltmore House for our 20th. We stayed off-grounds at a local B&B, and as we were leaving, a young couple was checking in and I overheard the Bride say, "... and we're hoping to preserve that 'zing.'"

I couldn't help myself. I butted in.

"Zing is good. By all means, cultivate 'zing.' But the most important thing for US for staying married is being willing to put up with someone else's crap."

People fuck up. Sometimes they fuck up big. My marriage has come this far because Herself and I are willing to let each other's fuckups go. Even the big ones.

That's not to say there can't be deal-breakers. But so far, we've been copacetic enough to not find any.

I told her at the beginning - I was willing to stay married as long as she wanted to stay married, and that we would work anything else out.

Like setting a new max at the bench press, when you lie under the bar, you first decide that you are going to COMMIT.

I've always planned on getting married once I hit 30 (I'm 28) but after talking to all of my married friends they all sound miserable and are a shell of their former selves. It's almost like they are slaves to their (now overweight) wives.
