For starters: don't position yourself as someone who sells themselves according to status, money, possessions, etc.

I am a computer science student and when I tell girls this, they become excited and say that I will make a lot of money!

Just because they think it's cool that you'll probably have access to jobs with good salaries, doesn't necessarily mean that they're golddiggers.

You need to be screening people and getting to know them. If you do this, you'll find out if they're golddiggers. Things to make sure you talk with them about:

What's their major and why?
What is their plan after school?

The point is not to go down a list of questions; the basic idea is, as you talk to people, probe back a bit. Find out what makes them tick. Find out about their motivations in life, how they feel about things, and what things they value/prioritize in life.

You're not the only one giving information in a conversation.

How do I avoid gold diggers or girls who only want me due to money?

Based on what you find out in conversation, you'd want to avoid:

Girls who can't tell you why they picked their major.
Girls who have no plan for after school.
Girls whose plan doesn't provide for very much income.
Girls who demonstrate or mention a desire for expensive things or expensive lifestyles.

It's not that you should necessarily drop people in a rude way if you find these things out. It just means that they're probably indicating that their values don't match yours, so you know where they fit in your life.
