tl;dr roommate is wasting his life, I'm moving soon, friends since childhood, can I point him in the right direction or are attempts futile
I'm 21, so is my roommate Carl. Carl does 4 things: washes dishes full time for min. wage, smokes weed every day, plays video games and is a legend at guitar.
Carl's a virgin. He's never even made out with a girl. He's about 5'7", skinny as hell and has long dirty unkempt hair. He's a 4, absolute max. Carl met a girl at the restaurant he works at and they started talking during lunch, then hung out in groups a few times. He's been crushing on her for several months, asking her to hang out and 90% of the time getting ditched at the last minute. He never questioned her excuses and just thought 'something came up' whenever they were supposed to hang out.
I can tell he wants advice from me but he just doesn't want to ask. Instead of "Hey man, how can I fuck this girl? Any tips?" he'll moan and complain about her excuses to me, with a question mark at the end. The few times I've tried to point him in the right direction (at first it was typical frame, dominance, self-amusement then after several excuses from her to hang out it was simply to next her) he has never done or considered anything I've said so of course I stopped wasting my energy.
Last weekend her roommate was out of town giving her the apartment to herself. To him this was 'the time' and he was excited all week. He manned up and told her they were getting drinks Sunday. She accepted. Of course Sunday came and she didn't respond to his texts.
He's been baffled as to why she keeps ditching him. He has a few theories, such as she's a lesbian or she is just extremely unlucky. He can't grasp the fact that he's not a quality man, not attractive, not dominant etc. I've straight up told him she does not want to fuck him but he just gets angry, ignores me for a while and repeats the cycle.
Now I've known Carl for about 10 years. We grew up together. I am moving cities in a few months for university and he'll be getting a place on his own. I know it obviously seems like a lost cause, but I am hoping someone can offer some advice as to how I can help him, or steer him even slightly in the right direction.
When we first moved in together I tried to blatantly help him by recommending books, showing him the basics of TRP (didn't introduce him, just some concepts) but he ended up pushing it away more than anything.
After 4-5 months of intense monk mode I started approaching, going out and inevitably bringing girls home. My physique improved greatly as well, and I got a new job that was double my previous income. That's what set him over the edge, the fact that I was now making 5x what he was. He had a brief stint of 2-3 weeks where he really improved himself and started taking steps in the right direction. Then he gave up and went back to weed and gaming.
I now realize this is a long rant and I apologize for the nonsense. Can I help Carl before I leave? Should I even bother?
