Wow, this subreddit is pretty hostile. Don't listen to them imo. Where I'm from it isn't strange at all to ask online people out. I don't do it cause i was in 2 long relationships, but I never heard of anyone finding that creepy or whatever. My ex-gf is now getting countless such inquires on instragam and she enjoys it. If one seemed charismatic and appealing to her, she'd go out with them. It sometimes feel like this sub is disconnected from reality. Wonder what's their opinion on Tinder then... I guess it shouldn't exist or something.
Anyhow, don't take the opinion of internet weirdos for granted, ask people you know what they think of it and then form an opinion if it's creepy or not.
Tbh, you already are talking to said girl and you have things in common, so it probably isn't even creepy to ask her out. Only factor of mistery is whenever she likes you that way too, or if you have a shot with her. If she doesn't like your appearance, then not sure there is anything you could say that would work. Regardless, you just ask if she'd like to meet up for a coffee one day. Or express an interest in meeting her up one day and pay attention if she says sth that means "i'd like that too".
Basically, over facebook / texts, you need to try to look out for signs that she might like you back and if so, just ask really. If she likes you, the answer will be a maybe, not yet or yes, if she doesn't, nothing you could have done anyway.

Even if adding strangers on fb is creepy, he is past that point and obviously the girl doesn't find him creepy anymore since they're (I assume) talking and getting somewhat well along. So it's irrelevant.
I personally don't and wouldn't add strangers on fb, heck, I don't even add acquaintances. But if it's something that works for this guy, I don't care that a bunch of internet weirdos finds it creepy. The fact we're all in this subreddit is already creepy, so we're clearly not the best people to be the judge of whats creepy and what isn't.

Creepy and sounds like he’s already over invested. Setting himself up for failure. I think most comments are speaking from experience in this thread.
I have plenty of cringe messages from high school of me trying to talk to girls on Facebook. It was a lot better when I talked to girls in person. It’s definitely better from him to try to talk to others girls.
